The umbilical cord is the female
reproductive organ that transports oxygen directly to the embryo. The umbilical
cord joins a baby in the womb to its mother and it carries oxygen and nutrients
from the placenta into the baby’s blood stream. The umbilical cord is composed of
one vein and two arteries.
