You need to find the number of 7/8 ft. pieces in a 8 ft. long piece, so we will use division.
8 ÷ 7/8= 9 1/7
We have a fraction involved, and we know that he can not use a fraction of a piece for his situation, so he will be able to make 9 whole pieces of wood, and will have 1/7 left.
