the arrhenius acid definition is when a substance that will dissociate in water and will form H+ ions. for HCl the chemical equation to satisfy as an arhenius acid definition is, the HCl will dissociate to form H + and Cl- ions. in equation form: HCl ----> H+ + Cl-
