The Gracchus brothers helped the poor by asking the council of Plebs to pass laws to take back land from the Patricians (Pisistratus). Also, they wanted to pass land reform legislation that would redistribute the major aristocratic landholdings among the urban poor and veterans, in addition to other reform measures.
