The sum of two numbers is 40. find the larger number if the product is twice the larger and four more than the smaller is a maximum

12 and 28, because

n + (2n + 4) = 40

3n + 4 = 40

3n = 36 n = 12

12x2 + 4 = 28

28 is the larger number.
